It’s the first Friday of May. That can only mean one thing: the battle for song of the summer is officially underway. If you are me, you might be ready to call for the bell already.
Two days ago, Justin Timberlake drove the interwebs into a frenzy by announcing that he would be releasing new music this week. That day has arrived, and I feel very secure in saying that this may be my favorite single he’s released since “Summer Love” (a song that deserved the title “song of summer” but never achieved that goal).
Aptly titled “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” this kicky first track from the upcoming Dreamworks movie Trolls carries shades of Pharrel’s “Happy” and is produced to perfection for Top 40 play. It’s a far cry from the more experimental tracks that came out of The 20/20 Experience, but the smile on my face doesn’t really care. Put on your dancing shoes Sally because Justin Timberlake just fired the first shot in the song of summer battle and it’s smokin’. Did I mention that the video includes a dancing Ron Funches and Anna Kendrick singing into a hairbrush?… Delight incarnate.
I think you’ll be hearing it quite a bit over these next few months 🙂
